A Format for the Paper Writing of “National Taiwan University Philosophical Review”

I. Main text

    i. Writing of characters

  • (i) In horizontal format.
  • (ii) Chinese Paper must write in traditional Chinese.
    ii. Level of chapters

  • (i) For Chinese, please mark in terms of “壹、一、(一) 1. (1) a. (a)”.
  • (ii) For western languages, please mark in terms of “I. A. (A) 1. (1) a. (a)”.
    iii. Paragraph

  • (i) Leave two spaces in the first line of each paragraph.
  • (ii) The short text can be embedded into the text when you quote the original text directly. For Chinese papers, please mark with「 」, for English papers, please mark with “ ”.
  • (iii) Independent quote to form a paragraph individually, with 3 spaces left in each single line.
    iv. Quotes

  • (i) Please use the new announced punctuation marks, use「 」for Chinese quotation marks and “ ” for western quotation marks when you use colon “ : “ for direct quotes.
  • (ii) Use「 」for Chinese quotation marks and “ ” for western quotation marks when colon “ : “ is not used for direct quotes.
  • (iii) When there is quote within the quote, the quote symbol within the Chinese single quotation marks「 」 is double quotation mark『 』;the quotation sign within the western double quotation marks is single quotation mark‘ ’.
  • (iv) No quotation mark is added on the independent quote.
    v. Notes

  • (i) specify the source in the text in a format of (author, years/abbreviation : page numbers), for example : (Fine, 1994: 7-9),(Kant, KRV: 25(B)).
  • (ii) specify the source in a format of (years : page) once there is name of author mentioned in the text if you would like to, for example : “According to Fine……,……(1994: 11).”.
    vi. Abbreviation, name of diagram and location of notes

  • (i) Abbreviation can be used in short form with clear indication in the references.
  • (ii) Name of the table is on the top while the note is on the bottom of the table; name of the diagram and note of the diagram are below the diagram. Diagram is located in the middle of the text.

 

II. References

Please include the documents which have been quoted in the main text in the references; those which are not quoted in the main text will be excluded.

    i. Layout sequence

  • (i) Enlist references in Western languages first by authers’ names in alphbetical order, then that of Chinese authors in strokes ascending order.
  • (ii) Different documents by the same author will be arranged in terms of date of publication.
  • (iii) Add small case after the year to differentiate the publications in the same year.
  • (iv) Except the full name of author has to be listed on the first article, 3 short dashes ---will be used to replace the author’s name for the rest of different documents by the same author.
    ii. Table of abbreviations

  • In addition to the abbreviations specified on the bibliography, the quoted abbreviations can be fully listed on the top of references page.
    iii. Format

  • Print out the references in terms of below formats.
    • (i) Periodicals

    • Chinese periodicals :「Author (year)。〈Title of the article〉,《Title of the Periodical》, volume number: page numbers.」. For example:
    • 王文方(2007)。〈虛擬條件句理論述評〉,《臺灣大學哲學論評》,33:133-182。
    • Western periodicals:Author’s last name, author’s first name (Year). “Title of the article.” Title of the Periodical, series number, volume number: page numbers. For example:
    • LePore, Ernest., Loewer, Barry (1987). “Mind Matter.” Journal of Philosophy, 84: 630-71.
    • (ii) Papers in books

    • Chinese papers in books :「Author (year).〈Title of the article〉,Editor(ed.),《Title of the Periodical》,page numbers。place of publication:publisher。」For example:
    • 張旺山(2001)。〈行動人與歷史世界的建造:論狄爾泰的「生命的詮釋學」〉,黃俊傑(編),《中國經典詮釋傳統(一):通論篇》,51-75。臺北市:喜馬拉雅基金會。
    • Western papers in books:Author’s last name, author’s first name (Year). “Title of the article.” Editor(s) (ed.), Title of the book (page numbers). Place of Publication: Publisher. For example:
    • Haugeland, John (2002). “Heidegger on Being a Person.” Hebert Dreyfus (ed.). Heidegger Reexamined (vol.1): Dasein, Authenticity, and Death (73-84). New York: Routledge.
    • (iii) Books

    • Chinese books:「Author (year)。《Title of the article》。Place of Publication:Publisher。」For example:
    • 牟宗三(1983)。《心體與性體》。臺北:正中書局。
    • Western books:Author’s last name, author’s first name (Year). Title of the book. Place of publication: Publisher. For example:
    • Allison, Henry E. (2001). Kant’s Theory of Taste: A Reading of the Critique of Aesthetic Judgment. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
    • (iv) Ancient books

    • Original scripts of ancient books:「Author(year)。《Title of the ancient books》(version descriptions),volume number。」for example:
    • 劉向(清)。《列女傳》(道光17年振綺堂原雕,同治13年補刊,梁端校讀本),卷2。
    • Copy of ancient books : 「Author (year)。《Title of the ancient books》(place of publication:publisher,date of publication,copy version),volume。」 For example:
    • 王鳴盛(清)。《十七史商榷》(台北:樂天,1972,影廣雅書局本),卷12。
    • (v) Conference papers

    • Chinese conference papers:「author(year. month)。〈Title of the article〉,「title of seminar」。location:organizer。」for example:
    • 陳文團(2004.04)。〈馬克斯的正義與薪資分配制度〉,「馬克斯的正義研討會」。北京:北京清華大學。
    • Western seminar papers:Author’s last name, author’s first name (Year, Date). “Title of the article.” Paper presented at the Name of the Conference, Place. For example:
    • Tran Van Doan (2006.11). “Harmony as the Principle of Eco-Ethics.” Paper presented at The 25th International Conference on Eco-Ethics. Denmark: University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen.
    • (vi) Ph.D. papers

    • Chinese Ph.D. papers:「author(year)。《Title of the article》。Ph.D. papers。Location of announcement(name of department and school)。」For example:
    • 林雅萍(2008)。《意識、觀視與德行—梅朵論道德能動性》。博士論文。臺北:臺灣大學哲學系。
    • Western Ph.D. papers : Author’s last name, author’s first name (Year). Title of the dissertation. Unpublished doctoral dissertation, Name of the University, Place. For example:
    • Carlo Kwan (1985). The Dimension of Time in Mythology. Doctoral Dissertation of Philosophy. Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Louvain.
    • (vii) Electronic publications

    • Chinese electronic publications:「author(year)。〈title of the document〉,date of document issuing。Publication information of electronic publications(name of publication platform, chief editor,publication unit)。Ways of data acquisition(date of acquisition, website)。」for example:
